Merit 360 – Young Leaders Programme in the field of sustainable development has gathered 360 young people from 85 countries this year. Their task was to deal with the realization of Agenda 2030 – the UN sustainable development goals in different segments. The Programme, which lasted 16 days, was held in the USA, and it was organized by the British non-governmental organization ”World Merit“ and supported by the United Nations.
Tijana Ivanović from Serbia was one of the participants in the team for Sustainable Development Goal 6 – Water & Sanitation. As one of 22 team members from 13 countries, her task was to prepare the so called Action Plan 001 for achieving the UN sustainable development goals.
The Action Plan preparation included three segments – the development of marketing strategy that would enable increased involvement of the public, especially the youth, in sustainable development; emphasizing the examples of good practice at local and global levels and the creation of a new team project, which is simultaneously the most important segment since it should show the most efficient way of dealing with issues of water and its quality in diverse communities.
“Our idea is WASHable International platform - online platform dedicated to SDG6, the aim of which is to increase the representation and importance of water as a topic at a global level. washableinternational.org comprises 3 pillars - education, activism and action. Our plan is to develop a great number of projects related to water and express our enthusiasm and vitality through such projects, in accordance with the politics of this event - be the change you want to see“, Tijana Ivanović pointed out.
The final projects were presented in the UN headquarters in New York, where eminent figures such as UN Youth Envoy and UN Special Advisor on the Agenda 2030 were speakers and guests. ”I am honoured to have been a part of this event, and special thanks are due to the company Miteco, which recognized my enthusiasm and the importance of the Programme for the acquisition of practical skills in the field of sustainable development, and supported my scholarship for the participation in the Programme Merit 360“,Tijana Ivanović added.
