Dear colleagues, associates and friends,
You have before you the fourth edition of the „MITECO Kneževac" company E-zine.
In this issue, we have devoted special attention to the recently held 4th International Miteco Forum "The Future Is Asking You" which was held at "The Crowne Plaza" Hotel on November 27th.
On this occasion, we hosted more than 200 participants. The Forum was attended by representatives of the state administration, local self-governments, industry, professional community and media. In two panels and various constructive debates, they jointly attempted to find new solutions in the sphere of environmental protection and waste industry.
Each of our Forums has registered an increased number of participants signifying that there is increased interest in environmental protection issues. On the one side, this is the result of a growing awareness that the public is becoming more interested in the environment, and, on the other side, there is an interest to hear practical answers and proposals offered by our commercial sector. In our opinion, this trend will continue, and with this in view, we are working towards turning Miteco Forum into a brand in its own right, or rather an educational platform where new knowledge in the area of environmental protection and related topics will be exchanged.
The slogan of this year's Forum was ''The Future Is Asking You''. A lot of people have asked me what this means exactly? We do not wish to wait around and be analyzed by the future and called out for our mistakes. We feel that we can offer solutions and answers to avoid being ashamed of ourselves in the future. Also, it is our intention to learn something from countries which have made mistakes in the area of environmental protection. And, of course, to raise awareness in the region that the changes occurring are common to all.
In the world today we are witnessing faster than ever changes in the economies of countries, and, likewise, in their approach to environmental issues. Three years ago, as well as in the earlier Miteco Forums, we were more focused on waste management techniques in order to draw attention to the fact that waste management and water treatment represent a big opportunity, as well as an obligation. We mustn't forget the effects of climate change on the lives of people, food production, etc. As for Serbia, the greatest changes have taken place in the private business domain which is gaining a key role in environmental protection. Of course, we mustn't forget the start of the EU accession process. In this sphere, we are most concerned with the dynamically changing EU legal system regulating environmental protection. Whatever was mastered yesterday, today is obsolete.
The month of December is a time when we look back at the year behind us. For the company "Miteco" Kneževac, the year 2014 was more than successful: we maintained our leading position and continued to move the boundaries of professionalism in this business, we increased our client list by 30%, we exported to authorized facilities in Europe for final disposal of waste approximately 3500 t of hazardous waste, of which 2500 t of waste from remediation of contaminated locations.
During the May floods, we made a financial donation of 500.000 RSD and we helped export 5 tons of PCB waste from the flood affected areas. For the first time in the history of export of hazardous waste from Serbia, we successfully exported 1500 t of PCB waste by inland navigation. We are working together with the largest companies in Serbia on finding the best quality solutions for waste management, we have strengthened our cooperation with our regular partners in the country and abroad, as well as with government institutions. We have one of the leading roles in all debates relating to environmental protection in the country, and we are looking forward to new challenges in 2015.
On my behalf, as well as on the behalf of the company Miteco, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
