Safety at work
Occupational health and safety and environmental protection are the priority in operations of company Grundfos, we have learned in an interview with Ninoslava Ignjatović, Engineer for Environmental Protection and Occupational Health and Safety at Grundfos. This is exactly why Grundfos has been insisting on transparency of the Policy of Occupational Health and Safety and Policy of Environmental Protection, directed at all stakeholders.
Implementation of OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 standards in only seven months, from the beginning of operation of Grundfos in Serbia, is truly evidence that with good organization, tools, great support from the management and all employees it is possible to achieve the goal. We are now going toward implementation of ISO 50001 standard, the purpose of which is to enable the organization to follow a systematical approach in achieving continuous improvements of energy indicators, including energy efficiency, use and consumption of energy. In this we have support from BMS system (Building Management System), with which we are able to monitor consumption, work of the equipment, to react in time, reduce costs, etc. By developing the culture of occupational safety through trainings, workshops and experiences of our colleagues from around the world, we are striving toward a safer environment.
We motivate our employees to report dangerous events and actively participate at daily meetings, as well as at meetings of the Safety and Health Board, in order to act preventively from the perspective of safety and strive toward proactive way of thinking and achievement of the goal – which is zero injuries. From the perspective of environmental protection, we can proudly speak about LEED GOLD factory that Grundfos opened in Inđija. In addition to smart systems that have been implemented and the most advanced technologies, great attention is dedicated to development and strengthening of awareness of employees about importance of sustainability, significance of waste separation, treatment of waste water and emission. Individual implemented systems are: system for reuse of water after showering for toilet, system for collecting rainwater, light sensors, skylights wherever possible, etc.
Two very important strategies of Grundfos are Strategy of Sustainable Development for the period 2011 – 2015 Strategy of Environmental Blueprint of Grundfos for the period 2009 – 2024. With these strategies, Grundfos wants to become the leader in the competence market and to place sustainable development in the first place. The strategies include areas in which it is necessary to act, СO2 emission, goals, how to achieve them, implemented activities and reference values.
Training of employees in understanding the significance of the influence of operation of a production plant on climate changes is being implemented in all Grundfos companies. The Department for Environmental Protection is in charge of creating the necessary material for the training of employees. Raising awareness of employees is achieved through flyers, trainings, daily meetings, posters, electronic information on monitors mounted in the production plant in every Grundfos company around the world.
The campaign launched by Grundfos in 2009, under the title "Future Now Award", with special focus on reduction of CO2 emission, is being implemented every year in Grundfos companies. Focus is on motivation of employees to invest their own energy in order to reduce consumption of energy in the reproduction plant. For this reason, every proposal for improvement or reduction that comes from an employee will be rewarded and implemented, if possible. As a response, Grundfos has been organizing an award for the most innovative, most proactive, most applicable implemented proposal that came from employees.
Grundfos has a strong focus on reduction of CO2 emission so that it would never emit more СO2 that what was emitted in 2008 on a global level. One of the tools with which it is possible to monitor the key performance indicators is QIS (Quality Information System) data base. This tool is exclusively dedicated to the Department of Quality and Environmental Protection, Occupational Health and Safety. This data base must be populated once a month by every Grundfos company with data related to key performance indicators (KPI), in this case these are СO2 emission, energy consumption, water consumption, hazardous waste, non-hazardous waste, absence due to injury and loss time due to injury. The data for this data base is collected on the basis of daily and weekly monitoring, for which every company has been developing its own monitoring system.

It contributes to global sustainability through development of technologies that improve quality of life and care for the plane. Sustainability is of six values that Grundfos has recognized. Through this value, Grundfos emphasized that it operates responsibly and in an increasingly sustainable manner. It emphasizes that it produces products and finds solutions that help the buyers to preserve natural resources and reduce influence on climate changes. Through this value, Grundfos is taking an active role in the society and social responsibility because it also cares about those with special needs. With the very implementation of the said standards, company Grundfos has confirmed that it is standing behind its words and striving toward continuous improvement.
