In the previous period, MITECO launched numerous initiatives in the area of environmental protection and provided help where it was needed the most.
Participation in CEDEF
In cooperation with Serbian Chamber of Commerce, on March 3, 2014, the Central European Development Forum - CEDEF organized the second public debate focusing on the topic of Managing industrial waste in the Republic of Serbia. This debate, which took place in the facilities of Serbian Chamber of Commerce, was attended by more than 100 representatives of different companies, local self-governments and non-governmental organizations that are involved in activities related to waste industry and environmental protection. The goal of this gathering and the public debate was exchange of opinions of experts in the area of environmental protection, as well as discussion about possible further steps in order to raise the situation related to industrial waste management in Serbia to a higher level.
Speakers at the debate were: Jovanka Arsić-Karišić, President of MB of CEDEF, Milivoje Miletić, advisor to the President of Serbian Chamber of Commerce, Filip Radović, Director Agency for Environmental Protection within the Ministry of Energy, Development and environmental protection of the Republic of Serbia, mr Goran Trivan, Secretary at the Secretariat for Environmental Protection of the city of Belgrade, Siniša Mitrović, advisor to the President of Serbian Chamber of Commerce, Prof. Aleksandar Jovović, PhD, faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University in Belgrade, Maja Milić, Hazardous Waste Manager, Kemis-Gorenje Ekologija and Marko Popović, Mr. Sc. Tech, NAUE Opticus.
Company MITECO Kneževac supported "Zlatni beočug" ("Golden Link") Award
Since 1970, Cultural-Educational Community of Belgrade has been presenting the award and recognition "Zlatni beočug" (Golden Link) to artists, creators, scientists, ensembles, organizations and institutions for permanent contribution to the culture of Belgrade. It is the award presented to those who enrich the cultural life of the city of Belgrade, nurture spiritual values and value scientific and cultural achievements.
Recognizing the quality that this award has for Belgrade, "MITECO Kneževac", as a socially responsible company that supports the community in which it operates, decided to support this event.
Solving of case study at the Faculty of Organizational Sciences
As the leading company in Serbia in managing industrial and hazardous waste, "MITECO Kneževac" has launched an initiative at the Faculty of Organizational Sciences in Belgrade for realization of student competition in solving a study case on the topic "Managing hazardous historical waste in the Republic of Serbia".
Students' interest for solving case studies focusing on issues of environmental protection was really exceptional, since there were as many as 17 enrolled teams. Students presented their works and also presented to the professional jury the methods for disposal of 400 tons of historical waste of company XY in restructuring. Additionally, they prepared strategies for solving bad publicity in the media and proposals for improvement of legislation that regulates the area of managing hazardous historical waste. The best team will have the opportunity to, within a three day trip, get acquainted with the work of the waste disposal plant in Vienna, the second ranking team will, through internship in company "MITECO Kneževac", learn how this area is really functioning from the perspective of economy in Serbia, and the third ranking team will have the possibility to attend the Fourth International "MITECO Forum" planned for November 2014. The Faculty of Organizational Sciences awarded the best five teams with a trip to Zlatibor , where they will attend the Fourteenth International Symposium "SYMORG 2014, organized by the of Organizational Sciences.
MITECO visiting trade fair in the field of environmental protection technologies IFAT 2014
In early May, representatives of MITECO Kneževac visited IFAT 2014, the most important trade fair in the world in the area of environmental protection and on this occasion they had a series of encounters with current and potential foreign partners aimed at finding optimal solutions for disposal of industrial and hazardous waste. Special significance of the visit to this fair in Munich, where 3,081 exhibitors from 59 countries around the world presented themselves, was to gain insight into the latest trends in the field of development of waste disposal technologies.
MITECO Kneževac helping in remedying areas affected by floods
On the occasion of the emergency situation in our country, caused by unprecedented floods and landslides, MITECO Kneževac decided to show its solidarity in practice and help the affected areas. Help and support consisted of monetary donation in the amount of RSD 500,000 that will be paid into a special dedicated account of the government of the Republic of Serbia opened for this purpose. On addition to this, MITECO Kneževac assumed the obligation to dispose and export, at its own expense, 5,000 kg of PCB waste from the areas affected by floods, in order to prevent potential environmental disasters in these parts of Serbia. 1,675 kg of PCB waste have already been collected from Šabac, and it is expected that this waste will be collected also from other affected locations.
