Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants
The Company Miteco attended the final seminar of the project "Update of the National Implementation Plan for the Implementation of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)".
POPs (Persistent Organic Pollutants) are chemical substances that present persistent organic pollutants, i.e. organic compounds that are toxic to people and other living organisms, bioaccumulative and persistent.
Attending the seminar were representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection and Deputy Minister Aleksandar Vesić, Sonja Roglić, Head of the Department for Chemicals, Ph.D. Hristina Stevanović Čarapina, UNIDO National Project Coordinator, as well as other experts in the field of implementation of the Stockholm Convention.
The overall objective of this project is to update inventories of old POPs chemicals and pesticides and to develop inventories of new POPs chemicals by national consultants who will be engaged by UNIDO, based on which national reports on POPs chemicals which will be submitted to the Secretariat of the Stockholm Convention by the Republic of Serbia. Also, an important component of this project is raising awareness of all target groups on risk to POPs exposure and measures for risk reduction to be further defined in the Plan for Communication and Raising Awareness on POPs chemicals.
This project is realized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, in cooperation with the Organization of the UN for Industrial Development (UNIDO), and it is funded by the Global Environmental Facility.
