Meeting of the Serbian-German Business Council: There is need for the improving environmental protection standards
At the meeting of the Serbian-German Business Council held on November 16th, 2014, some measures relating to environmental protection and waste management were recommended to the Republic of Serbia, one of which is founding of a special ministry for environmental protection, as well as closing down all illegal dumps and companies engaged in this field that are operating illegally.
Chairman of the German Holding „Scholz", Mr. Oliver Scholz, pointed out the need to close down about 3000 illegal waste disposal sites in Serbia, adding that the company „Scholz" has invested in environmental protection in Serbia over 20 million euros since 2001.
According to Mr. Scholz, in Serbia there are approximately 3000 illegal sites for disposal of metal waste, as well as 2000 waste lands. As he pointed out, these locations present a great danger to the environment as no labor related, environmental or safety regulations are enforced here. In addition, metal waste is recycled in an unsafe manner, and the trade related to this waste is often illegal, with no paying of taxes to the government.
