The launching of the Twinning project
Miodrag Mitrović, President of the Company Miteco Kneževac, attended the conference for the launching of the Twinning project "Improvement of the hazardous waste management system in the Republic of Serbia – Integrated plan of hazardous waste management".
The conference was held on May 15. First to address the gathering was the Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Snežana Bogosavljević Bošković who pointed out the fact that hazardous waste management is an extremely important issue for Serbia. Speaking at the conference were also the Ambassador, Deputy Head of the Delegation of the EU to the Republic of Serbia Oskar Benedikt, representatives from the Embassy of Austria and Embassy of Germany, and a high official of the Austrian Environment Agency Monika Mörth, Head of the team for the EU accession negotiations process Tanja Miščević and the State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Stana Božović.
The project was proposed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection. It was approved by the European Commission in the IV quarter of 2014. The general aim of this project is to help Serbia meet the requirement of EU legislation in the sector of environmental protection through institutional building and improvement of the environmental infrastructure.
The goal of this project is the development and improvement of the waste management system by completing the respective legislation issues, strategic planning and implementing the framework for management of special hazardous waste streams, in compliance with the standards of the European Union and Serbian legislation.
This project is planned as a two-year project, with a 6 month optional extension. The project is funded by the European Union and co-funded by the Republic of Serbia.
