Just under year after Miteco and Agent Plus exported hazardous waste from Serbia by inland navigation for the first time, a second ship has sailed for the Netherlands.
Ship carrying hazardous waste
MITECO Kneževac performed the packaging, transportation and temporary warehousing of 1,500 tons of hazardous waste in its transfer station. All the necessary export permits and licenses for final disposal and thermal processing were secured from the competent institutions, and the waste was then dispatched by Agent Plus to a treatment plant in Moerdijk, the Netherlands. Trained people with full protective equipment for handling PCB waste were engaged for the purpose of such projects.
"In this way, Miteco continues to meet high standards in environmental protection. River transport is not only environmentally more acceptable, due to lower emission of exhaust gases and the possibility for transportation of larger quantities at once, but it is also less expensive, with only a small difference in transport time.'', said Milorad Božić, Acting General Manager of Miteco Kneževac.
Waste that is exported from Serbia is PCB waste, a persistent organic pollutant, classified as a stable, toxic and carcinogenic substance with persistent effect, which may significantly affect human health.
Miteco is a company engaged in disposal of hazardous and industrial waste and remediation of contaminated sites, while Agent Plus is one of the leading companies in the region for providing transportation organization and logistics.
