Hazardous waste exported by inland navigation
For the first time in the history of export of hazardous waste from Serbia, company MITECO Kneževac, together with Agent Plus, successfully exported PCB waste by inland navigation. Trained people with full protective equipment for handling PCB waste were engaged for the purpose of such projects.
All necessary permits and approvals for export for permanent disposal and incineration were obtained, MITECO Kneževac performed packing, transport and temporary warehousing of 1,500 tons of hazardous waste in its transfer station, which were then dispatched by Agent Plus, to a treatment plant in Moerdijk, the Netherlands.
PCB waste, defined as a persistent organic pollutant, is classified into stable, toxic and carcinogenic gene organic substances with persistent effect, which may significantly affect people's health.
