The Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, together with the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC), organized the conference "Environment: A Challenge and an Opportunity for Serbia's Development".

The Conference was organized in cooperation with the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC) at the Serbian Government Building on 23 March. The goal of the Conference was to lay out the obligations and responsibilities of all interested parties: local self-governments, regional institutions, national institutions and international entities.
The principal targeted group were representatives of cities and municipalities as they are the ones who are going to be applying most of the environmental protection standards and who will actively take part in the process of preparing and applying the planned projects.
Aside from experts from the environmental protection field and representatives of European associations, scientific institutions and successful international and investment companies, participating in the Conference was also Mr. Miodrag Mitrović on behalf of the Association "HRABRI ČISTAČ", a member of FEAD (European Federation of Waste Management and Environmental Services).
Participating as panelists at the Conference were also the State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Stana Božović, Head of Operations Section of the EU Delegation to Serbia Richard Masa, Regional Director for South Eastern Europe at the Regional Environmental Center Gordana Kožuharova, General Manager at PORR Austria Karl-Heinz Strauss, former Director of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Israel Josi Inbar, FEAD Representative Peter Hodeček, Director of International Relations and Strategic Development of the Regional Environmental Center Kenty Richardson.
At the final panel discussion, the speakers were the Head of the Environmental Protection Department International Management Group John Glazebrook, Head of the Project Management Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Ljiljana Veljković and a representative of MEGLIP.
