The company Miteco began with the takeover of the hazardous waste from the industry of the chemical products "Prahovo salt" in bankruptcy. So far, two trucks of the prazilin waste, the pesticide with the expired shelf life, are taken away directly from the location where it was situated, with the previously prescribed packaging and labelling. This waste is then permanently disposed in one of the EU countries, such as Austria, Germany and Switzerland. The complete cleaning of the location is expected by the end of August.
Prahovo is not an isolated case, as many enterprises in Serbia in its operations during the production have used the hazardous materials. The Sulphuric acid, sodium hydroxide, cyanide salts, ammonia, nitric acid, pesticides and many other harmful substances, because of lack of finances of such companies to destroy them, are often stored and kept at unsafe way. The services provided by Miteco, among others, include also the solving of the problems of such companies in bankruptcy, where is located a large quantity of historical hazardous waste.
The Prazilin is a herbicide which is a carcinogenic compound nitrofen. This pesticide in 1991 was imported from Germany, but due to its properties, has ceased to be used. Any use of the pesticides brings the negative consequences on the ecosystem in which it applies, as well as on the surrounding ecosystems. One of the foundations of sustainable agriculture and the sustainable development, is just reducing the use of the pesticides.
